Discover Our Regions

Vilaura’s philosophy is to produce Methode Traditionelle wines that express the region from which they are grown,

Each region having its ideal grape varieties and styles to suit the terroir.

Hawke’s Bay

Located on the East Coast of the North Island, Hawke’s Bay’s temperate maritime climate and long sunshine hours provide an extended growing season. Protected by the surrounding Kaweka and Ruahine Ranges, the Hawke’s Bay is characterized by the arid brown hills during the summer months.

Marlborough

Situated at the top of the South Island, fresh coastal breezes from the Pacific Ocean provide a maritime climate for Marlborough’s wine growing region. The hot days yet cool nights helps retain acidity and freshness in these characterised wines. The impressive surrounding mountain ranges protect the region from extreme weather.

Central Otago

Central Otago is the southern most wine growing region in the world. A continental climate in Central Otago provides a climate with one extreme to another. Hot summers and cold winters with low rainfall during the growing season, the air is dry here reducing the risk of botrytis and other diseases. Diurnal shifts help retain acidity and prolongs the growing season.
